Precious Metals / Gems Testing Service

We provide a range of tests which include;

Gold jewellery:  

• No acids involved, the probe contains a harmless salt solution.
• Tests gold from 8ct to 24ct (the scale is marked “K” instead of “ct” because it’s American)
• As with every tester (whether you spend £15.00 or £12,000.00) it only tests the surface. This means you must file the surface with a fine needle-file (supplied with each tester) in a place where it won’t show, to remove any surface plating.

Gems Diamond, Moissanite, Ruby, Sapphire.

• There is no gem testing machine that will simply light up with the name of one gemstone, giving a positive 100% guaranteed identification. Each time you test a stone, the reading will give a selection of possible stones.
• Gem testers merely suggest possibilities and you must use a combination of experience and other tests to come to a conclusion.
• Apart from some specialist diamond testers, there is no electronic machine that will distinguish natural gemstones (grown in the ground by nature) from synthetic stones (grown in a laboratory using the same chemicals and the same conditions found in nature).

Rapid, non-destructive Bullion Bars and coins verification.

• The Precious metal verifier rapidly and non-destructively tests precious metal coins and bars. PMVs can quickly and accurately assess a wide range of samples with a few button presses. No chemicals needed.
• The machine tests the characteristic resistivity of a sample and determines if the sample’s resistivity is consistent or inconsistent with the selected alloy.
